How clean is the air in your restaurant?

The Importance of Fresh Air in your Restaurant

How pure is your air at your restaurant? How clean does your air smell in your restaurant? Perform this test on your restaurant if you are the owner. Go out for a few minutes. Make a phone call or sip a cup of tea or coffee. Then return to your restaurant. What smell greets you first? Try to identify the different smells in the air. Are they too hard to tell apart? Are the smells so intertwined they don’t seem inviting anymore? It could be turning away more customers than you can imagine. They may stay there during that first visit, but subconsciously have made a decision not to visit your restaurant again because of overpowering smells.

How invigorating it is to take a walk in the woods, fill your lungs

with fresh air. It is clean and pleasant, and indoor air quality can

become much of a challenge. Restaurant owners now are becoming

more conscious of this fact trying to keep their indoors smelling

clean and neutral

At home, you are faced with a much lesser challenge. The smell of cooking is more pronounced as only a few dishes are made each day. This actually increases your appetite. In a restaurant, it is different. The smells are overpowering and in most cases, mingle, intertwine so much that it is hard for the human nose to distinguish each smell separately. The Combined Odor Syndrome (COS) can actually cost your restaurant by losing more customers in the long run.

If you laugh this off, you can be sorry losing more customers in the long run. Every single detail matters. When customers enter your restaurant, they are paying for everything – the ambience, noise levels, décor, seating arrangements, service, food, visual appeal – presentation, and the air quality in your restaurant. If your restaurant has an unappetizing, overpowering smell of different dishes, all combined, it can for certain ruin the appetite of each customer dining at your restaurant.

Air Quality, besides water is a crucial element that is required by us humans to breathe. The quality of clean air cannot be stressed enough. With the increasing levels of air pollution, particles in the air threaten the lives of many people suffering from breathing problems like Asthma.

Air quality in your restaurant is crucial as it is in our homes. American homes are said to be 88% more polluted air quality wise for lack of proper ventilation. Studies show that such polluted air can actually harm family members especially kids who have a weaker immune system than adults.

In developing countries, the air quality is much more tolerable as homes have windows that are kept open. Also the level of industrialization is not so heavy on developing countries. While the case can be argued that pollutants released in the air are checked for emission levels and quality control is done, there is still a lot to be said about air quality in homes and restaurants – one of the most frequent places families visit.

Air purifiers like the EPI Plus, Ozone Blaster Purifier and the Eagle 5000 designed for heavy duty Commercial use by Eco Quest International to be used in restaurants, bars and other industrial areas, including doctor’s offices, clinics, printing shops and schools do the job of keeping the air pure from pollutants, strong odors and eliminating toxic / nauseating smells. Smells can play a powerful role in that they can dissuade kids to visit hospitals / clinics / dental offices. It can instill fear and a feeling of unpleasantness, increasing tension and discomfort caused by a high level of anxiety.  These air purifiers can clean air from 250 sq.ft to 3,500 sq.ft. Banquet halls which serve food to a large crowd could also make use of multiple air fresheners to keep the air smelling clean and neutral.

Overpowering smells in a restaurant can subtly turn off the charm that your restaurant exudes by way of interior décor. Even if the interior décor is at its very best, your restaurant can lose points if it does not eliminate strong layers of smell. The air purifiers can eliminate all sources of odors such as smoke, mildew, fungi or the ones caused by bacteria. It helps more if the restaurant is kept clean.

If your restaurant uses a lot of exotic spices like Garam Masala (a combination of  spices ground to make it hot) or Coriander powder, Methi (ground Fenugreek), Cumin Powder, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, red peppercorns, habanero, and herbs including Onions, garlic and leek it is time you seriously thought of investing in an air purifier. The leek is a member of the onion family, but is milder than either onions or garlic. Either way, they cause mixed or combined odors. Allergens like Peanuts and a variety of nuts like Pecans, Brazilian nuts, Macadamia, which are used most in Thai or Chinese cooking, also have the potential to be irritants to allergy sufferers who find Peanut particulates toxic or dangerous.

In a more technology savvy world, the answer to eliminating smell and particles in the air is using Purifiers. They can clean up your restaurant air by charging it with Positive Ions – also called Ionization. With lint filters that can trap particles and grease elements in the air, it can keep the air purer and keep those odors mild, rather than overpowering. This way, when the dish reaches the table, it really aromatizes and makes your guest hungry. Keeping the smell level at a low also helps add to the level of mystery which can increase sales.

The element of curiosity always adds up in increased sales for your restaurant. If the customer is unable to get distinct smells, and the nose is unable to pick up on food smells till it reaches the table, the customer may end up ordering more than he / she should just as a bonus, due to the element of curiosity – the anxiousness to smell a particular dish and will end up eating it or bagging it to go. On the other hand, overpowering smells can have the reverse effect, allowing your customer to leave earlier than you intended for them to stay. This could result in lower sales, lower turnover annually.

Always remember to keep the element of surprise a good tasty dish with aromatizing smells should actually surprise your guest, not do an overkill by overpowering smells as they enter the restaurant.

Residential air purifiers are also made and sold by EcoQuest International. People with breathing problems and asthmatic patients have experienced relief using the air purifier in their home. It also helps keep common colds and other breathing disorders at bay. Keeping the home smelling clean and neutral also helps you and your family members plus those guests you invite on weekends feel right at home.
